Dear distance calculator. This is currently the first site that google suggests when asking "christchurch to nelson time" to get travel times. The other direction is accurate. Please can you amend this so that tourists don't think they need to drive faster and plan their trips better. Cheers mate.

I totally agree with Don Robertson.
The inland route is through the mountains, and the western road is a thin and winding coastal road. It will take 5 Hours minimum.

The only way you could average 112 kph on new Zealand roads is to drive like a maniac. Roads are far to narrow and windy to maintain a speed like that. Plus the speed limit is 100kph on the open road, except for a couple of motorways that are tens of km long.

Beginning to understand why so many tourists have accidents here.
