It does seem strange, but it may be due to border restrictions. The Google Map says 331 km which is about 206 miles. I think RJ is right.

The extra distance is due to the political climate in the Middle East. Many border crossings are restricted, and others are not passable at all. A traveler might have to go from one country to another to to find a "friendly" border to cross.
I just said the exact same thing. That road must be a lot curvier than depicted on the map.
