I agree with GinaBobina, I was completely horrified that someone would suggest driving at 112km/hour when our maximum speed limit for the north coast and Edward Seaga highways which connect Montego Bay to Kingston is 80 km/hour. In fact as she rightly says, it's not even safe for anyone to drive at the maximum speed limit all the time due to the construction vehicles which traverse these roadways and other hazards such as potholes, animals, pedestrians (jaywalking is a thing here) and crazed motorists like the taxi drivers, coaster and minibuses. A realistic arrival time for your own car is 2 hours and 40 minutes, while using a coach such as the Knutsford Express will take about 3 hours 30 minutes given they make a few stops such as in Falmouth.
These times and distances really should be updated as they are very misleading. There is NO possible way that one can safely drive 70mph from Mo'bay to Kingston the way the roads are in Jamaica. Even in the best conditions, the roads are riddled with potholes, pedestrians, and incredibly aggressive taxi/bus drivers who have no problem with YOU veering off the road to avoid an accident, but they won't. In the worst conditions, rain disguises a 6 inch deep pothole to seem like a small puddle - that will take out at least a tire if not the whole rim, the roads are riddled with construction constantly - including giant trucks who are brutally unforgiving!
The average speed limit is 40 km/h and the highest I've seen posted is 80. Even with those speed limits, Jamaican taxi/bus drivers will exceed that at any moment as they are familiar with the roads and conditions, but anyone who is NOT familiar with the roads should not be driving beyond those posted speeds at all. Even the GOOD roads will have obstacles, known and unknown.
Good luck!
